Citizen Oversight Committee

If voters approve the Wichita Forward proposal, a 15-member Citizen Oversight Committee will be appointed by the City Council within 90 days, with a city resident requirement.

The committee’s role is to ensure the plan is carried out as voters intended and that the public can clearly see how funds are used.

The Oversight Committee will:

  • Be dissolved when sales tax expires, and revenues no longer collected
  • Provide at least one independent financial audit annually to Citizens and City Council
  • Meet at least twice annually, and may have subcommittees for each initiative
  • Will not make funding determinations or oversee any of the specific initiatives
  • Serve three-year terms (may be reappointed up to three terms)
  • Will have a Chair and Co-chair and city staff member serving as Secretary
  • Adhere to KORA and KOMA requirements
